The Wonderful World Disney On Ice 2017

Disney on Ice has been on our radar for quite a while.

My elder son has been rather hooked on Disney recently because of the sticker book his mum bought for him so I thought it's a good chance to introduce Mickey and the rest of his troops live on show.

We chose the category 3 where the ticket price was $45 and the scene was pretty clear to see from our seat. There were many empty seats around our area despite a Saturday and once the show started there were people who moved over from category 4 to 3 to get a better view. That's a pretty good idea for next year when we have our big family group coming together.

The show started promptly right at the dot on our chosen time at 10.30 and we managed to find our seats pretty easily.

To be frank, my knowledge of Disney was rather limited.

I haven't seen a Disney movie in about 5 years and I have lost touch with the rest of the recent movies like Frozen and Rapunzel for instance.

My old generation of Disney were Mickey and gang, which includes Aladdin and Snow White. There were totally different generation gap between me and my son knowledge of Disney characters.

The first half was more exciting to us because there were more characters that we could recognize, while the second half was more focused towards the Princesses like Rapunzel and Anna and Elsa which we have no idea on the storyline and characters. It was the most popular though as I can see from the crowd action when they played the song "Let it go"

Overall, I think it's worth the ticket and I'm happy that Oscar enjoyed the show throughout overall.

I hope they'll come back again next year and we'll go together as a big family this time round :D

Children's Dinosaur Festival @ Gardens By The Bay

We went to Gardens by the Bay with the intention to watch the Rhapsody of the Light but were more than pleasantly surprised to see the huge statues of dinosaurs being placed right there.

We planned to go in the morning when the sun was bright and sunny but we were exhausted after our run-out at the Palawan Pirates the day before.

In the end, we decide to go only after we had our dinner at home, sometime around 6 in the evening.

It was still bright by the time we reached there and we managed to stop by a couple of activities that were still ongoing at that point in time. Oscar was also very enthusiastic about checking out the dinosaurs too of course when he sees them.

There were ongoing performances and there were spaces in the huge plainfield in the middle area. By the time we reached there, it was about to finish, so we didn't really watched much.

When the crowd disperse, we went to grab some ice-cream and sat down on the grass while waiting for the Rhapsody of the Light to begin at 7.45. There were some thunders so we were a little worried (turned out to be a non-event)

We managed to grab a good seat area right in the middle of all the lights that were happening.

The scenery was beautiful and the view was breathtaking. It almost feels like one of the very few calm time to be able to enjoy time like that.

The Rhapsody show runs for about 15 minutes, though it seems a lot longer than that. It changes color right every second and it runs on mostly a Disney song.

I think it's something I could bring my parents and wife next time to enjoy the show again.

School Holiday Activities - Palawan Pirates Ship Water Playground

In one of the school holiday activities we did on weekday, we chose to go to the Palawan beach at Sentosa as the major centerpiece attraction of the Palawan Pirates Ship Water Playground goes underway.

The attraction is huge (as you will see later) and most importantly they are free. Where can you find such a great family bonding activities to run down the kids energy like that!!!

How To Get There

First, let me document my journey how we reach there eventually.

There were basically 2 options for us to choose from.

The first is to go via the Vivo City route and from there go up to level 3 buy the roundabout ticket for $4 to go to the Beach Station.

We didn't choose this route and eventually settle down taking cab and stop by the RWS casino area and walk 5 minute to get to the train (free entry).

Upon reaching the Beach Station, turn to your right and walk within 5 minutes until you see the Kidzania. The pirate ship is right at the opposite and so big that you cannot miss them.

Palawan Beach

We reached there pretty early at about 9.30 in the morning and we were greeted by the sunny and beautiful scenery of Palawan Beach.

As it was still early in the morning, the air was fresh and the crowd was still empty. Perfect way to walk around the beach area.

We spent about half an hour playing around the beach area, enjoying the sun and also the waves that are coming at us. Oscar seemed to have fun playing the sand too, while it reminiscence our time a while back in Krabi.

At 10 clock where the playground was open, we proceeded to our main highlights of the day.

The crowd soon starts to come and before long, we have tons of kids running around, shooting the water, and queuing up the slides. We were glad that we didn't come this on a weekend, else the crowd is going to be unimaginable.

Turning On The Water Splash

There were 3 main slides to choose from.

The red one in the picture below is for toddlers and they are mild slides for them to enjoy.

The green one is rather steep and it runs in a deep dark tunnel. Still, the kids were thoroughly enjoying themselves with this slides. Oscar's too scared for this one so I guess we'll have to revisit it again next time when he's older.

There's the last one with the blue slide which I didn't manage to get a picture of it.

Overall, we spent about 2 hours in the playground and were totally exhausted and KO-ed by the ongoing running and swimming.

If you're going there, it's better to do it on weekdays where the crowd is still manageable than to squeeze over on a weekend.

With the recent water 30% hike, we'll have to see until when they have these "free" admissions until.

A Different Experience Visit To The Zoo

We went to the zoo for the 3rd time after Oscar requested to go time and time again.

This time, I had intention to roam around by foot, so didnt proceed to book the tram which costs an additional $5 per person.

We were pleasantly surprised to have a whole new experience walking by foot exploring the zoo, as we come across some animals which we did not manage to see in the first 2 rounds.

The weather was wet and it drizzled for much of the day we were there. It was cooling and hence makes walking that much easier.

We stopped by the goat cage and fed leaves to some of the goats who were lurking around for food. It was a new experience for Oscar as he never gets to feed the goat upclose face to face.

We also decide to queue for the giraffe feeding which costs $5 (given to charity). I'd have much preferred the bangkok version of giraffe feeding when we went back in 2015 by using a long stick to feed bananas instead.

We also brought our lunch box this time round instead of having to rely on the rather expensively priced KFC and we settled down in front of the Kidstop area.
